>> Safety devices
On board the Baleària ferries, the priority of the captain and crew is the passenger’s safety. Because of this, Baleària’s ferries — as well as strictly complying with all the revisions required by both the Dirección General de la Marina Mercante and the rest of the relevant organisations — include additional safety devices.
>> Access to the ferry
In accordance with international safety guidelines, Baleària’s staff will ask the passengers to show their identity documentation when boarding the ferry.
The port authorities also control the access of the passengers and their luggage using scanners and metal detector arches; the examination may extend to the vehicles that board.
>> Restricted access areas
The application of international safety guidelines involves the restricted access to certain areas of the ferry (such as the cargo hold, to which only the drivers of the vehicles have access and where photography and video recording is prohibited). The restricted access areas are properly signposted, so Baleària asks its passengers to comply with this guideline, as well as the other safety and protection measures.
>> CCTV
All the ferries have CCTV with image recording, which ensures perfect surveillance of the ferry and the passengers against any type of illegal acts that might be perpetrated on board. In addition, the ferry is in constant contact with Baleària’s land staff and the competent authorities for protection to guarantee a safe journey.
>> Passengers information
Passengers may voluntarily provide information on any special care or assistance they may need in an emergency situation. If booking online, they may fill in the Remarks field.
>> Somoke free area
In accordance with the national law on tobacco, smoking is prohibited
inside the ferries. Nor is it permitted to smoke in any of the Baleària
offices. Baleària thanks its passengers for complying with this law.
>>> Deck
On the fast ferries,
which are high-speed vessels, the deck cannot be accessed during the
crossing (even if the ferry is moored in port or even when sailing at a
reduced speed when going in or out of the port). On the rest of the ferries,
during the crossing you can stroll on the deck without any problem at
all.
>>Cargo Hold
In accordance with the international safety code, access to the cargo holds of the ferries is restricted to the drivers of the vehicles. In addition, photography and video recording is completely prohibited in this area.
The cargo hold remains closed throughout the crossing, so you are advised to take any personal possessions that you may need during the journey with you to the passenger areas.
Once
the ferry has reached the destination port, passengers with a vehicle
on board will be informed when they can access the garage/cargo hold.
However, the vehicle’s engine may not be turned on until the ferry gates
and exit ramps have been opened.
