Is it necessary to have a boarding pass to travel? How long in advance must it be collected?

Yes, it is necessary to have a boarding pass for each of the passengers and vehicles travelling on the vessel. The boarding pass will be issued to you at Balearia's counters upon presentation of your ticket or at the automatic check-in booths by entering your ticket reference number. The time limit prior to boarding is 30 minutes for passengers and 60 minutes for vehicles. Remember that it is important to observe these time limits in order to avoid any problems when boarding. After this time, Balearia will not be able to guarantee successful boarding of the vessel. Furthermore we would like to inform you that you can collect your boarding pass in advance, and that you can collect departure and return boarding passes simultaneously.

For more information visit the section Boarding rules

Are the seats numbered? Are the seats comfortable?

The seats are not numbered, but we guarantee that you will find a place in the passenger lounges. On all Balearia's vessels (except Ibiza-Formentera route), passenger lounges are divided into two classes: Neptune and Sirena. Both classes are equipped with spacious and ergonomic reclining seats, with folding trays and pockets for personal objects.

Is it necessary to check in luggage?

No, suitcases and hand luggage do not need to be checked in. You must take it yourself to the vessel, where you can place it in the racks of the passenger lounges. These will remain open during the entire crossing.

Can pets travel?

Yes, Balearia's vessels are equipped such that our customers' pets can go with them for free during their holidays and trips. However, it is necessary that they respect a series of rules in order to guarantee the rights and the comfort of the other passengers. For more information, see the section Pets.

Can a vehicle´s size impact in some way?

Yes, in some cases. Remember that there are two tariffs for cars, depending on the height of the vehicle: T1 if its height is below 2 meters, and T2 for those higher than 2 meters. If you add a luggage rack to your vehicle it´s possible that the final height of the vehicle changes, and therefore the applicable tariff will also change. Please take this into account when booking the ticket.

Is it allowed to smoke in the vessels?

In accordance with state law, it is forbidden to smoke inside the vessels and the company installations on-shore. Balearia is grateful to passengers for complying with these regulations.

Is it possible to make a call with a cell phone during the crossing?

Yes, because calls made with a cell phone do not interfere with the navigation equipment. In addition, during most of the routes there is sufficient network coverage to make a telephone call.

Can I take a walk on the decks during the trip?

If you travel on a fast ferry operating at high-speed, you can only take a walk on the deck while the vessel is moored in the port. On the other vessels you can take a walk on the deck without any problem during the trip. In addition, on the decks of the ferries you will find deck chairs in which you can rest and enjoy the journey.

Which safety features do the vessels have?

The safety of our passengers is our priority and, therefore, we inform them in detail about the safety features and procedures. In our vessels you will find information boards with indications on where to find emergency exits, meeting points, boats, life jackets, etc. In addition, remember that it is important to watch the videos shown at the beginning of each trip about what to do in case of emergency. Please do not misuse the safety measures; they can save your life!

If you want more information, you can find a detailed description about the safety features of Balearia's vessels in the Safety on board section.

What do I have to take into account if I am a resident in the Balearic Islands?

What is the subsidy for residents?
There is a discount on the tariffs of regular services of maritime transport, granted by the Spanish State, applicable to Spanish citizens and citizens of other EU states and states signatory of the Agreement of the Economic European Area, who can prove their residence in the Balearic Islands. This discount is applicable for travel between the islands of the archipelagos or between the Balearic Islands and another point of the national territory.

What documents will I have to show to receive the discount for residents?
If, in your national identification card, your stated residence is a town from the Balearic Islands, you will have to show the original ID and present a copy of its two sides. If you are a resident but is not stated in your ID, you will have to show either a resident certificate for travelling issued by the town council of the town where you live (according to the regulations currently in force) or a military certificate. Remember that you have to show a certificate per ticket and, therefore, if your ticket is a return ticket you will only have to show one certificate, but if you have a different ticket for each route, you will need two certificates.

When will I have to show those documents?
If you buy the ticket at Balearia's counters or at a travel agency, you will have to show the supporting document of residence in that moment.

Can I leave the presentation of the supporting document of residence pending?
No, since
the Royal Decree 1316/2001, was put into effect, you cannot leave the presentation of the supporting documents of residence pending.
