Do I have to book and buy a ticket for my pet?

On Balearia vessels our customers' pets travel for free. Therefore, it is not necessary to book a ticket for pets: you just have to let us know you are bringing the animal when collecting your boarding pass.

What documentation do I have to show?

When you go to collect your boarding pass and tell Balearia about having your pet on board, you will have to show the animal's health documents.

How should I board my pet?

If your pet is a dog, when boarding and disembarking the animal must be wearing a lead and muzzle. Even if it is a placid animal, you are taking it into a new setting where the crowds of people might alter its usual behaviour. Bear in mind that the possibility that Balearia provides you with of travelling with animals must be compatible with the rights and comfort of the other passengers.

Other animals must always be boarded inside a cage or an appropriate box.

Where will my pet be travelling?

> Fast ferry

If your pet is a dog, after boarding a staff member of Balearia on board will take it to an area of the deck that is fitted out for animals to travel comfortably. On fast ferries it is not allowed to stay on deck during the crossing. Do not worry about your pet, however, since the journeys on this fast ferry is very short. Other animals will be able to travel inside the ship, accompanied by their owners , always inside a cage or an appropriate box and respecting the rights and comfort of the other passengers at all times.

> Ferrys

If you travel with ferry, there are two possibilities. Either your pet travels with you on the deck of the ship or the animal travels with you in the passenger lounges, inside a cage or box (except for the Isla de Botafoc ferry). In the latter case, you can ask a member of the staff on board to provide you with a transportation cage. Even if you choose travelling with your pet on deck or inside the passenger lounges, do not forget to respect other passengers.

> Isla de Botafoc ferry with cabins

At the Isla de Botafoc ferry pets travel on the deck, in comfortable cages available especially for pets. Pet access to this vessel's passenger lounges is strictly forbidden.

If I travel with my car, can I leave my pet inside during the crossing?

No, it is strictly forbidden for the animal to travel inside a vehicle parked in the hold. Even if the crossing is short and you leave the car windows open, think of the risks for your pet's health. To avoid this situation, Balearia has equipped its ships so that our customers' pets can travel comfortably and risk-free.

Advice on travelling with dogs
Before travelling, it is useful to consult your vet so they can inform you of the measures to take and whether it is necessary to give the animal any tranquillizer. Do not give any drug or product to your dog without first consulting your vet.
It is compulsory for your dog to have up-to-date vaccinations.
Avoid travelling with your dog if it is ill or still a puppy.
It is recommendable that your dog is duly identified (collar with the name and owner's telephone number, microchip).
It is preferable for the animal to travel unfed and that you feed it when you have reached your destination. During the journey it is a good idea to give water to the animal.
Before boarding, take your dog on a long walk in order for it to relieve itself and relax before travelling.

Have a good journey
